Cookie Policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on www.allaboutdrinks.xyz, what each category does, and how you stay in control. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for a site to work; others measure how a site is used or support advertising. Related technologies — such as localStorage — store information in your browser in a similar way without being sent to a server.
The consent banner and Consent Mode v2
On your first visit we show a consent banner. No analytics or advertising cookies are set until you make a choice. Technically, the site implements Google Consent Mode v2: consent signals (analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization) all default to "denied" and are updated only according to what you choose in the banner. Declining never blocks any content — every page of the encyclopedia works identically with all optional cookies refused.
Essential cookies and storage
These are strictly necessary and do not require consent:
- Consent record — remembers the choices you made in the banner so we do not ask on every visit.
- localStorage favourites — the "Save" button stores your saved drinks, recipes and articles in your browser's localStorage. This is not a tracking cookie: the data never leaves your device and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data removes your saved items; see the Privacy Policy for details.
Analytics cookies (only with consent)
If you consent, Google Analytics 4 sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) that help us count visits and see which pages are read. GA4 is configured with IP anonymisation, and traffic from the site's administrators is excluded. If you decline, GA4 sets no cookies and we receive only cookieless, aggregated signals under Consent Mode. Analytics data is never used to identify individual readers.
Advertising cookies (not yet active)
We have applied to Google AdSense but no advertising code runs until the site is approved. If ads go live, Google and its certified partners may set advertising cookies — and then only if you have consented to advertising storage in the banner. Without that consent, any ads shown would be non-personalised. We will update this policy before any advertising cookie is ever set, and our wider commitments are in the Advertising Policy.
Changing your preferences
You can change or withdraw consent at any time:
- Use the "Cookie preferences" link in the site footer to reopen the banner and change your choices; the new settings apply immediately.
- Delete cookies through your browser settings — every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies per site.
- Block third-party cookies entirely in your browser; the encyclopedia will still work fully.
Withdrawing consent stops future data collection but does not retroactively delete data already collected; for deletion requests, see the "Your rights" section of the Privacy Policy.
Third parties
The only third parties that may set cookies here are Google (Analytics, and AdSense after approval) and Google Fonts, which serves our typefaces. Google Fonts is a resource request and does not set cookies. We do not embed social-media widgets or other third-party trackers.
