Advertising Policy

All About Drinks is free to read and always will be. To keep it that way without paywalls or sponsorships, we plan to carry a modest amount of display advertising. This page sets out the rules that advertising must obey on this site — rules that exist before the first ad ever appears.
Current status: no active ads
We have applied to Google AdSense. Until Google approves the site, no advertising code is active anywhere — the placeholder slots you may notice in page layouts are inert and load nothing. When ads go live we will update this page, the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy first, and advertising cookies will only ever be set with your consent under Consent Mode v2.
Ads will be clearly distinguishable
Every advertisement will be visually distinct from editorial content and labelled as advertising. We will never publish "advertorial", native advertising dressed as articles, or sponsored encyclopedia entries. If it looks like an article on this site, it is an article, produced under our Editorial Policy.
Placement rules
- Never above the fold on articles. When you open a drink profile, recipe or article, you see the content first — the title, introduction and opening text — before any advertisement. Ads sit within or after the body, never ahead of it.
- Limited density. Reading comes first; we cap the number of ad units per page and will not stack units in ways that break the flow of the text.
- No intrusive formats. No auto-playing audio or video ads, no full-page interstitials on ordinary navigation, and nothing that hijacks scrolling.
Sensitive pages carry no ads
Advertising is disabled entirely on: the Medical & Health Disclaimer and any page whose primary subject is health; the Responsible Drinking Policy and any page discussing alcohol problems or support services; and all legal and policy pages, including this one. Readers looking for help or for our rules should never be doing so next to an advert.
No alcohol-brand sponsorship — ever
We do not accept, and will never accept, sponsorship, paid placement, free samples or any other consideration from producers, distributors or retailers of alcoholic drinks. Within the ad network's controls we also block alcohol-sales ad categories from serving on the site. An educational site about drinks cannot be on a drinks company's payroll; this rule is permanent, as stated in our Educational Disclaimer.
Advertising never touches editorial
Advertisers have no knowledge of, and no influence over, what we publish. No article is commissioned, amended, softened or removed for an advertiser's benefit; ad performance data is never consulted when deciding what to write; and no advertiser sees content before publication. The wall between advertising revenue and editorial judgement is absolute.
Third-party ads and your data
Ads served through Google arrive from Google's systems, not ours; we do not choose individual advertisements. Whether ads are personalised will depend entirely on your consent choices — decline advertising storage and any ads shown will be non-personalised. Details will live in the Cookie Policy once ads are active.
Complaints about an ad
If an inappropriate advertisement ever appears — particularly anything alcohol-related, misleading, or unsuitable for a general audience — report it to hello@allaboutdrinks.xyz with the page address and, if possible, a screenshot. We will block the category or advertiser through the network's controls as quickly as the tools allow.
